Galway Technical Institute has launched a new survival kit for students who are planning a work or study visit to a foreign country.

Galway Technical Institute, Father Griffin Road, will host its annual open day on Wednesday March 11 from 9am to 5pm. GTI is the largest provider of quality assured further education (FE) courses in the west of Ireland.

The much-anticipated end of year student art and design Exhibition at Galway Technical Institute will take place today (Thursday) at 7pm. Students of the art portfolio preparation, furniture making and design, fashion design, and interior design further education courses will display their paintings, drawings, sculptures, furniture, garments, and interior design portfolios. The exhibition will showcase the creativity, talent, and innovative ideas for which GTI students are renowned.

In January 1893 the board of guardians of Galway Poor Law Union decided to establish a technical school, but the plan ran into immediate difficulties. The Local Government Board objected because they had not been consulted, and it took a year for the matter to be sorted out. The moving spirit behind the project was Father PJ Lally, who succeeded in getting money from the Government and secured a premises in Dominick Street (where Áras na nGael is today).
